March Against Death Alley

Opening Gathering: Tuesday, Oct. 15th, Church of New Orleans, 6-7:30
March Dates: Wednesday, Oct 16th- Wednesday Oct. 30th
Itinerary: Coming Soon!

The March Against Death Alley is coming up! We will be marching from New Orleans, LA to Baton Rouge over 14 days to stop the state-sponsored, industry-driven genocide of the historic African American communities that reside in the area between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, formerly known as Cancer Alley.

This stretch of land, hereafter called Death Alley,  has the highest cancer rate in the nation, caused by pollution from the petrochemical industry. These pollutants are also known to cause other life-threatening illnesses, such as respiratory diseases (esp. asthma), autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular complications, and birth defects. Children, developing fetuses, and the elderly are the most vulnerable to these adverse health affects, however everyone is susceptible to fall ill, as evidenced by the sheer onslaught of weekly funerals in these communities.

This march is being organized by Coalition Against Death Alley, a coalition of local and national social and environmental justice organizations including Justice & Beyond, 350 New Orleans, RISE St. James, Concerned Citizens of St. John, No Waste LA, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, Sierra Club, NAACP, Center for Biological Diversity, Earthworks, and Center for Constitutional Rights.

We are raising money to cover costs of the march, including food, transportation, supplies, signage, candles to light in remembrance of the victims, and a bail fund in case someone gets arrested.

350 New Orleans, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization has stepped up to manage the funds received in this campaign, and therefore every donation is tax deductible.

Please join us in making a difference!

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause!

More information about 350 New Orleans Inc  (350 New Orleans): 350 New Orleans is a volunteer climate activist group connecting our region to the international climate change movement led by 350.org. Our mission is to lend support to initiatives in New Orleans that raise consciousness and promote sound policy around climate change. We exist because climate change poses unprecedented threats to life, and coastal Louisiana is especially vulnerable. Rising seas, hotter temperatures, and stronger storms have grave implications for the futures of our coasts, communities, and cultures. We prioritize locally-grown initiatives over national ones, and collaboration over working alone. We recognize and seek to amplify the power of existing New Orleans- and Gulf-based groups working for climate justice in their own communities.
