Marcey's Cancer Journey

Our dear, sweet angel and beautiful spirit Marcey Flood (McConnell) lost her battle with cancer on June 27, 2020; she was so brave and courageous in her fight. Those who are fortunate enough to have Marcey in their lives know what an incredibly caring, compassionate and beautiful person she was. She was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, and human being that will be deeply missed. As Sr. Pablo from St. John said, "Marcey taught us all to love unconditionally and to have faith. We are called to live by her example."

THANK YOU, everyone, for your donations, kind words, love, condolences, meals, prayers and support. We are deactivating this Go Fund Me campaign; please know how helpful this was to our family when we were fighting for every day together. Your support made a huge difference in our lives and we cannot thank you enough.
Please donate to the EHE foundation  as you are able - together we can fight this rare and destructive cancer!

When we are able to have a memorial for Marcey that will allow for larger groups, we will share the details via Caring Bridge, Facebook, and through our connections at Bishop Blanchet and St John.

As you know, our beautiful, sweet Marcey was diagnosed with Stage 4 EHE cancer in the Fall of 2017. EHE (or Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma) is an extremely rare type of vascular cancer that occurs in the liver and other soft tissue areas of the body. EHE is not a curable form of cancer, but it is treatable. Marcey and Tim researched the best options for treatment and have been working with the great doctors at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Marcey’s team of oncologists decided the best course of treatment to arrest the spread was two different chemotherapy drugs, administered every three weeks for 6 months.  Those of you who know Marcey well know what an incredibly strong and resilient person she is. She continued working out at the gym and was able to return to her beloved job at St. John Preschool for a brief period of time before a major setback.

In mid-April, Marcey fell violently ill and has spent the last three weeks at UW hospital, enduring emergency surgery and several days in intensive care. Fortunately, she has come through her surgeries ready to continue the fight. She remains at UW healing from a 50 cm bowel resection and consequent ileostomy. It will be weeks before Marcey is strong enough to resume alternate forms of treatment for the EHE.

As you can imagine, the cancer and the long road of treatments has not only taken a toll on Marcey, but also on her immediate and extended family. Tim has been away from work as he devotes his time to caring for Marcey keeping bedside vigil day and night; while also taking care of Emma, Adam and their domestic responsibilities.

So many wonderful people have come forward to ask about Marcey’s health and what they can do to help - this posting is a start. We set this up so those interested can understand what’s happening with her condition and progress toward recovery. Tim and Marcey want to thank the wonderful communities of St. John School and Parish, Bishop Blanchet High School and St. Cornelius in Long Beach, CA for the incredible outpouring of love, prayers and support.

They feel so very blessed to have such a strong community of friends in their corner during this difficult time. After thoughtful consideration, Tim and Marcey have agreed to allow us to establish a funding mechanism which will help defray medical expenses, provide an opportunity for contribution and assistance, and enable the family to continue to focus on what is important without worrying about the details of finances.

Any donation helps, but even if you are unable please continue to pray for Marcey and the family. Prayers and good thoughts are always welcome! Please share this link on social media platforms so friends, family, and casual acquaintances sees this post. Marcey and Tim will share updates on her status via her dedicated Caring Bridge site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/marceyflood

Thank you again on behalf of the Flood and McConnell families.
