Marc's recovery

As some of you know my stepfather, Marc, was in a near fatal accident august 19th, 2018. He was admitted to HSC in critical condition and stayed in the ICU for over a week. He suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeds in two places, he broke his collarbone and most of his ribs and one of his lungs collapsed. His brain is still swollen and we're waiting to hear if he'll need to undergo surgery. He is slowly recovering however, because of the extent of his injuries he will be in the hospital for a long time.
My mom is currently on disability and Marc was supposed to start a job shortly after the accident and therefore my mom is unable to afford all of the upcoming bills. My mom talked to the landlord and explained what happened, unfortunately he isn't being very sympathetic to our situation. 
I'm not sure how much to ask for as we have no idea how long Marc will be in the hospital but anything right now will help!
