It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Marc Anthony Fitorre at the age of 33. Marc was a loving brother, son, grandson, friend, and colleague - and had a special impact on anyone he crossed paths with. Marc was born in the Bronx, New York to parents Andy and Nancy Fitorre. He moved around the country as a military child from the West coast to the East coast. Marc eventually settled more long-term in upstate New York for most of his formative and adolescent years. Marc was accepted into the Air Force Academy; however, he chose to attend Columbia University, School of Engineering and graduated with a BS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and a Minor in History.
Marc excelled in everything he set his mind to. He was part of the initial core political campaign team for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential candidacy. He believed in McCain’s ideology and core values as a presidential candidate that he volunteered and dedicated his entire summer towards aggressively campaigning in the state of New Hampshire where they successfully won the Primary election. Marc was a patriot and a strong believer in the Constitution of the United States of America; steering him to join the United States Marine Corps. The leadership skills he gained from the Marines permeated his very core and could be recognized in other areas of his life. One such area where his leadership and character were recognized was by his fraternity brothers who voted him as President of Columbia University’s Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter. He created lasting memories and life-long relationships with his fraternity brothers. His brothers became his “second” family and he carried a bond with them that resonated throughout his life.
Marc was a very loving person. He donated monthly to children who needed funds for education and was formally in the Best Buddies program which worked with Special Needs children. Outside of work, Marc adored the Yankees, Paintballing, Music, Theatre, Comedy, Board games, Joking, Reading, Learning,…And oh, let’s not forget, his “Ancient Aliens”!
As many of you may know, Marc absolutely loved, cherished, and had a passion for history. He thought of himself as a true New Yorker; through and through, born and mostly raised in New York! One of Marc’s biggest wishes was to be buried on the island of Manhattan. The treasured and historic Catacombs beneath the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral offers one of the last and only options to make his dream a reality. Miraculously and coincidently, the Basilica also has immense wealth and depth of original NYC, American, and Catholic history (https://oldcathedral.org/history).
For over 200 years, St. Patrick's Old Cathedral's underground catacombs have served as a silent witness to the struggles and accomplishments of New York Catholics. It is a sacred place where the Venerable Pierre Toussaint, a former slave proposed for canonization by the Catholic Church, was once laid to rest. It is a historic place where General Thomas T. Eckert, a bodyguard and confidant to President Abraham Lincoln rests in peace. It is holy ground where bishops rest among prominent historic and noteworthy individuals who have played defining roles in New York, American, and Catholic history including some of the original 22 Catholic men who petitioned the French government to open a Catholic church in New York City.
As a former political campaigner and Marine, the Basilica Catacombs is serendipitous, a dream come true and befitting as his final resting place.
We are all at a loss of words at the sudden death of this incredible young man, and his untimely passing has left the family with a heavy financial burden. We are asking for your generous donations to assist with the funeral, burial, and related expenses.

A visitation for Marc will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10028. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 5th Avenue between 50th/51st Streets, New York, NY 10022.
