In the county of Wiltshire and in the town of Swindon, I’m running my 20th marathon for those living with eating disorders, in partnership with Beat Eating Disorders.
What are Eating Disorders?
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that involve unhealthy relationships with food, body image, and self-esteem. They include conditions like Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and others. Eating disorders are not about vanity or a lifestyle choice—they are complex illnesses that can have devastating physical and emotional consequences. They can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background, and often go unnoticed until serious harm is done.
Why am I running for Eating Disorders?
Eating disorders can consume a person's thoughts, isolate them from loved ones, and rob them of joy and health. Recovery is possible, but it requires early intervention, understanding, and ongoing support. Many who struggle feel silenced by shame or fear of not being understood. Through this run, I want to help break the stigma and shine a light on the importance of compassion, awareness, and accessible help for all who are affected.
What is Beat Eating Disorders and what do they do?
Beat is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by eating disorders and raising awareness of these devastating illnesses. They provide helplines, online support groups, information resources, and training for healthcare professionals and teachers. Beat works tirelessly to ensure that everyone affected—whether directly or through a loved one—receives the support they need at the right time. Their mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.
How Beat Eating Disorders helps people with these struggles
Every donation to Beat makes a real difference in changing lives:
£10 could fund a vital one-to-one support session for someone in crisis.
£50 could help train a helpline volunteer to offer life-saving advice.
£100 could help Beat campaign for better access to treatment across the UK.
Through support, information, and advocacy, Beat gives people hope and the practical tools to begin recovery. For many, reaching out to Beat is the first step toward reclaiming their lives from these conditions. Stand against silence and stigma and show those affected that they are not alone. Please consider donating.
