For my 10th marathon, I’m in the county of Lancashire, running to support Heart Health and raise funds for the British Heart Foundation—a charity dedicated to fighting heart disease and saving lives through research, prevention, and support.
What is Heart Disease?
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, affecting millions of people of all ages. It covers a range of conditions, including heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, and congenital heart defects. Many forms of heart disease develop silently over time, with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and lifestyle factors increasing the risk. For some, a sudden cardiac event can change life in an instant, leaving families devastated and loved ones lost too soon.
Why am I running for Heart Health?
Every heartbeat matters. Heart disease doesn’t discriminate—it can affect the young, the old, the fit, and the vulnerable. Including 3 of the absolute closest people in my life. Some people are born with heart conditions, while others develop them due to genetics, diet, or lifestyle. I’m running this marathon for the people who didn’t get a second chance, for those fighting every day to keep their hearts strong, and for the families who have lost loved ones too soon. By raising awareness and supporting research, we can help prevent heart disease, improve treatments, and ultimately save lives.
What is the British Heart Foundation and what does it do?
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the UK’s leading charity funding research into heart and circulatory diseases. Their groundbreaking work has led to life-saving treatments, medical breakthroughs, and crucial public awareness campaigns. They also provide support for patients and families, helping those affected by heart disease to manage their condition and live longer, healthier lives.
How does the British Heart Foundation help people with heart disease?
Every donation brings us closer to a world free from heart disease.
£10 funds a CPR training kit, empowering people to save lives in emergencies.
£25 helps support patients recovering from heart surgery.
£50 contributes to groundbreaking research into heart attack prevention.
£100+ goes towards funding vital heart disease research, leading to better treatments and cures.
Heart disease touches so many lives, but together, we can change the statistics. With every mile I run, I want to think of those affected and hope to make a difference. This is Marathon #10, but for those living with heart disease, every day is a fight for their health. Let’s give them the best chance at a longer, healthier life.
Please consider donating today; this is for you mum, dad and grandpa x
