Hey everyone!
This Saturday would have marked the official date of the 2020 Seattle Rock N Roll Marathon. Due to the circumstances concerning Covid-19, the event was rightfully canceled until further notice. Our team of four (Jason, Justin, Matt and Sunwoo) decided that since we were still training regularly, we would run the marathon on our own. As such, we continued preparing for this upcoming Saturday.
Our original plan was to run the race for fun; for the pride over all the hours that we poured into training. However, in light of the recent protests against police brutality and corruption in our country, we wanted to use this chance to raise some donations for our brothers and sisters in the Black Lives Matter movement. We understand that we come from a place of privilege to even be able to do this. Ahmaud Arbery wasn’t able to run freely; George Floyd wasn’t able to breathe freely; Christian Cooper wasn’t able to be in public, free of harassment and potential hurt. In no way do we want this to be taken as a way to flaunt our privilege or be seen as a means to gain clout. We want to use the platform that we have to help make any change that we possible can.
Therefore, our team will collectively MATCH all donations up to $1,040, or $10 a mile. All proceeds will go directly to the -Black Lives Matter Foundation ·EIN: 474143254 -

We know that we have a lot to learn about our role as Asian Americans in the broken system of this country. We know that simply running this marathon will not end racism and police brutality. We know that this battle against this hatred will run longer than any race that we could possibly run. But we refuse to be silent.
