Manley Hot Springs Flood Donations

On Saturday, May 7th, 2022, at 930 am, the town of Manley Hot Springs, Alaska, had to make the hard decision to shut off power to their community as floodwaters continued to rise. As the people of Manley scrambled to get whatever they could out of their homes and off their properties that were quickly becoming submerged, Alaska governor, Mike Dunleavy, was formally declaring the situation a disaster emergency.

 

It has been a long and sleepless 3 days for our community. The water just wouldn't stop coming, flood waters were pushing houses off foundations, fuel tanks were flowing by and the water was coming in the slough so fast that things were floating up river instead of down. But Sunday morning came and the jam broke! The water is slowly receding and the people of Manley are finally able to get to their homes and inspect the damage. It is not good, and even with the help of the state it will take a lot for this town to get back on their feet. The ground is saturated in fuel and sewage, the smell absolutely overwhelming. Some houses are still unreachable to inspect all of the damage that this flood has caused. We believe it may be weeks and even months before some of our community will be able to get their homes livable again, leaving them displaced with kids and pets and no where to go.

 

Any and all donations to help the community members affected by the flood would be greatly appreciated.
