Over the past year, I've been serving with a local ministry in Mankato, MN called Connections Ministry. This ministry has meant a lot to me-knowing people in real need have a safe, warm place to sleep during the cold Minnesota winter nights. REAL people are getting REAL help. This has only been made possible by the love and hard work of our community, and the will of God. His love and grace helped a lot of people survive the harsh winter, and I want to ask you to help us make another winter a little less scary for those without a home. Please dig deep and find the love I know you have for those less fortunate than you, and follow the path Christ has shown us. One hundred percent of your donation goes directly to providing a safe place to sleep.
Below are some details and facts of our success last year.

Last year, over 170 individuals found a safe, warm place to sleep on the coldest nights of last winter. Men, women, babies, and elementary school children received warm hospitality, a hot meal, and a comfortable cot to sleep on. Eight partner churches in the Mankato, MN area opened up their buildings and graciously invited people in. Over 350 volunteers listened, served, and were blessed through the shelter. The first season of the Connections Shelter was a success due to the generosity of our community.
We will begin our second shelter season on October 22nd. Once again, an ecumenical partnership will connect neighbors facing food, housing and employment insecurity to available resources in the Mankato area. Guests will once again be housed overnight in local churches, rotating on a weekly basis between congregations. We currently have nine congregations committed to hosting guests in their buildings, and five other congregations who will provide volunteer and financial support.
Our fundraising goal for this season of the shelter is $75,000, which will provide the shelter with a part-time manager, as well as enough overnight staff to have two working every night. Through grants and donations, we have all the cots, bedding, and supplies needed for this shelter season. To date, we have received $27,000 from congregations and individuals toward our goal.
