Manhattan to Muscle Shoals Take 2

Donation protected
Last year, thanks to Mark Baker & Craig Bishop, I was fortunate enough to go down to FAME in Muscle Shoals, AL and record my songs in the studio that produced all the songs that turned me on when I was growing up.  The songs and artists that inspired me and made ME want to be a songwriter.  Aretha, Bobbie Gentry, Duane Allman, Wison Picket, Percy Sledge and so many others.  The experience thrilled and changed me in many ways and I am forever grateful for the privilege.  The result of that trip is my record, "MAYBE IN THE MORNING."  A collection of songs I am very, very proud of which you can purchase here:

"This is Emily’s strongest work yet. She’s found a confident, slinky feel and a gritty groove that serves her uniquely original lyrics and voice well. Her stellar band is more than supportive— they’re soulful stars in their own right.”  - Rosanne Cash (Singer/Songwriter/Author)

"The “S” word (Soul) gets a thorough workout, FAME-style, on what just may be the most perfect platter of 2017 so far.” - Fred Mills (Blurt Online)

"Twelve mini-dramas. Gripping and introspective, it strikes this writer as one of the best albums of the year.”
- Mark Gallo, Roots Music Report

"Maybe In The Morning follows on from her 2015 album Go Tell Your Friends which had reviewers comparing her to Lucinda Williams and while one can see that in the new album, Duff delves much deeper into her early heroes such as Bobbie Gentry and The Staple Singers while the ghosts of The Allmans and Delaney & Bonnie are never too far away.”
- Paul Kerr, Blabber’n'Smoke

“Emily Duff's soulful vocals and incisive songwriting have met their match at Muscle Shoals’ funky Fame studio. Her remarkable album "Maybe in the Morning" has that timeless, real-deal sound, with stellar musicianship taking Duff’s roots-blues-honky-tonk blend to the number one spot on my 2017 playlist.”
- Holly George-Warren, author of "A Man Called Destruction: The Life & Music of Alex Chilton" & consulting producer of the documentary "Muscle Shoals"

“(5 Stars!) By the sweet closing strum of ‘Somebody on Sunday,’ you feel like you’ve got a little closer to a performer whose time is surely now.”
- Henry Yates, Country Music, UK (June/July 2017 Ultimate guide to women in country music issue)

"Ms Duff is the pounding heart in a 3-circle venn diagram of Lucinda, Loretta, and Nick Cave.”
- Doug Simmonds (Former Managing Editor, Village Voice)

"Impactful story songs alongside memorable melodies that fuse country, soul, and rock and roll make Maybe in the Morning anything but a maybe.”
- Tara Joan (The Daily Country)

"Maybe in the Morning occupies a place somewhere in between New York City and Muscle Shoals, equally influenced by both, but ultimately indebted primarily to Duff’s earthy-but-urgent delivery and emotionally penetrating songwriting.”
- Jim Allen (Bandcamp feature)

While recording at FAME I had the pleasure of working with Engineer & FAME Studio Manager, John Gifford.  John is an incredible talent and the kindest, most generous human being.  I knew from the start that he and I would be making more music together and hopefully soon.

It is my great pleasure to say that John has offered to Produce my next record and I am overjoyed at the idea of putting my new songs in his capable hands to shape and frame.  The next collection of songs are what I would call a mix of Country-Soul, Gospel and Blues.  In true Muscle Shoals style I believe that these songs are best served by dipping back into the historical well from whence they came by getting my feet back into the healing waters of The Shoals and recording back at FAME.  I would be so very grateful if you could help get me back down that road again.

The money will be specifically used for
- studio time at FAME
- producer/engineer fees
- musician fees
- mixing
- mastering
- duplication
- meals (living expenses for me in Alabama)

Contributing $50 or more gets you a signed copy of the record.

Contributing ALL of the goal gets you Executive Prod. credit on the record.

The next record will most likely be titled after a song called "YOU BETTER BELIEVE."  From Manhattan to Muscle Shoals once more, I never stop believing......I thank you for believing too. xx
