<div>Seit über einem Jahr widmen wir uns einem ganz besonderen Projekt, das uns sehr am Herzen liegt: einem kreativen Dokumentarfilm über den Schutz der Mangrovenwälder in Yucatán, Mexiko. Es ist ein Film über Verbundenheit, Widerstandskraft und darüber, wie ökologische Hoffnung dort entsteht, wo man sie vielleicht nicht erwartet.

<div>An der Nordküste Yucatáns liegt ein faszinierendes Ökosystem: Mangroven, die das Meer mit dem Land verbinden. Sie schützen vor Stürmen, binden CO₂, sind Lebensraum für zahlreiche Tierarten, und für viele Menschen eine Lebensgrundlage.

<div>Doch die Mangroven sind bedroht. Tourismus breitet sich schnell aus, Straßen zerschneiden die Wälder, neue Hotelanlagen entstehen oft auf Kosten der Natur. Was als nachhaltige Entwicklung beworben wird, bedeutet für die Mangroven in vielen Fällen langsames Verschwinden.

<div>Mitten in dieser fragilen Situation gibt es Menschen, die nicht wegsehen. Menschen, die handeln; mit Geduld, Hingabe und Hoffnung.
</div>
<div>Wir erzählen die Geschichten zweier Initiativen, die genau das tun: Keila Vazquez und die Frauengruppe Las Chelemeras restaurieren seit über zehn Jahren täglich die Mangrovengebiete der Region, oft schlecht bezahlt, manchmal ehrenamtlich und immer projektbasiert. Was als ein Versuch begann, sich als Frau in ihrer Umgebung finanzielle Absicherung zu schaffen, wurde für Keila zu einer tiefen Verbindung zur Natur.

<div>Adalberto Caamal, ehemaliger Fischer, entwickelt unterdessen ein nachhaltiges Tourismusprojekt mitten im Mangrovenwald. Eine „Isla“(Insel) aus Stelzenhäusern für Tagesausflüge, gebaut mit Rücksicht auf jedes Tier, jeden Baum. Viele andere Fischer in der Region bauen "Islas" schnell und ohne Rücksicht auf die Umwelt. Aber Adalberto entscheidet sich für einen anderen Weg; einen, der mehr Respekt verlangt und dadurch auch mehr Zeit beansprucht. Sein Vater war früher bei den ersten Mangroven-Restaurierungen in der Region beteiligt. Von ihm hat Adalberto gelernt, nachhaltig zu denken.

<div><strong>Warum wir diesen Film machen</strong>

<div>Stella ist in Mexiko geboren und aufgewachsen. Heute lebt sie in Europa, aber die Verbindung zur Küste Yucatáns ist geblieben. In den letzten Jahren hat sie intensive Recherche vor Ort betrieben, Interviews mit Wissenschaftler*innen geführt, Beziehungen aufgebaut.

<div>Clara bringt als Regisseurin einen analytischen Blick auf die Zusammenhänge von ökologischer Zerstörung und globaler Ungleichheit ein.

<div>Uns beide verbindet eine tiefe Liebe zur Natur und die Überzeugung, dass Geschichten etwas verändern können. Wenn man sie ehrlich, nahbar und mit künstlerischem Anspruch erzählt.

<div>Unser Ziel ist kein klassischer Infobeitrag, sondern ein atmosphärischer Kurz-Dokumentarfilm (ca. 30 Minuten), der berührt, zum Nachdenken anregt und Hoffnung gibt. Die Mangroven selbst stehen dabei im Zentrum: als stille Zeugen des Wandels und als Erzählerinnen einer Geschichte, die größer ist als jede Einzelne von uns.

<div><strong>Warum wir eure Unterstützung brauchen</strong>

<div>Momentan sind wir in Yucatán und haben schon zwei drittel des Materials gedreht. Was uns noch fehlt, ist die Finanzierung: für Reisekosten, Equipment, Aufwandsentschädigungen, Speicherplatz, Transport in Mexiko und vor allem: um hier vor Ort mit allen Beteiligten fair zusammenzuarbeiten.

<div>Desde hace más de un año nos dedicamos a un proyecto muy especial que nos apasiona: un documental creativo sobre la protección de los manglares en Yucatán, México. Es una película sobre la conexión, la resiliencia y cómo surge la esperanza ecológica donde menos se espera.

<div><strong>De qué trata</strong>
</div>

<div>En la costa norte de Yucatán se encuentra un ecosistema fascinante: los manglares, que conectan el mar con la tierra. Protegen contra las tormentas, absorben CO₂, son el hábitat de numerosas especies animales y, para muchas personas, su medio de vida.
</div>
<div>Pero los manglares están amenazados. El turismo se expande rápidamente, las carreteras cortan los bosques y los nuevos complejos hoteleros se construyen a menudo a costa de la naturaleza. Lo que se promociona como desarrollo sostenible significa, en muchos casos, la lenta desaparición de los manglares.

<div>En medio de esta frágil situación, hay personas que no miran hacia otro lado. Personas que actúan con paciencia, dedicación y esperanza.
</div>
<div>Contamos las historias de dos iniciativas que hacen precisamente eso: Keila Vázquez y el grupo de mujeres Las Chelemeras llevan más de diez años restaurando a diario las zonas de manglares de la región, a menudo con salarios bajos, a veces de forma voluntaria y siempre basándose en proyectos. Lo que comenzó como un intento de conseguir seguridad económica como mujer en su entorno, se convirtió para Keila en una profunda conexión con la naturaleza.

<div>Mientras tanto, Adalberto Caamal, quien anteriormente era pescador, desarrolla un proyecto de turismo sostenible en medio del bosque de manglares: una «isla» de casas sobre pilotes para excursiones de un día, construida respetando cada animal y cada árbol. Mientras muchos pescadores de la región construyen «islas» rápidamente y sin tener en cuenta el medio ambiente, Adalberto elige un camino distinto: uno que exige más respeto y, por lo tanto, también más tiempo. Su padre participó en las primeras restauraciones de manglares de la región. De él, Adalberto aprendió a pensar de forma sostenible.

<div><strong>Por qué hacemos esta película</strong>

<div>Stella nació y creció en México. Hoy vive en Europa, pero sigue manteniendo su vínculo con la costa de Yucatán. En los últimos años ha llevado a cabo una intensa investigación sobre el terreno, ha entrevistado a científicos y ha establecido relaciones.
</div>
<div>Como directora, Clara aporta una visión analítica de las conexiones entre la destrucción ecológica y la desigualdad global.
</div>
<div>A las dos nos une un profundo amor por la naturaleza y la convicción de que las historias pueden cambiar las cosas. Si se cuentan con honestidad, cercanía y exigencia artística. Nuestro objetivo no es crear un reportaje informativo clásico, sino un cortometraje documental atmosférico (de 30 minutos) que conmueva, invite a la reflexión y dé esperanza. Los manglares son los protagonistas: testigos silenciosos del cambio y narradores de una historia que es más grande que cada uno de nosotros.

<div>Actualmente nos encontramos en Yucatán y ya hemos rodado dos tercios del material. Lo que aún nos falta es la financiación: cubrir gastos de viaje, equipo, dietas, almacenamiento, transporte en México y, sobre todo, garantizar un trabajo justo con todas las personas que participan aquí in situ.

<div>For over a year, we have been working on a very special project that is close to our hearts: a creative documentary film about the protection of mangrove forests in Yucatán, Mexico. It is a film about solidarity, resilience, and how ecological hope arises where you might not expect it.

<div>On the north coast of Yucatán lies a fascinating ecosystem: mangroves that connect the sea with the land. They protect people from storms, bind CO₂, provide a habitat for numerous animal species, and are a source of livelihood for many people. But the mangroves are under pressure. Tourism is spreading fast, roads are cutting through the forests, and new hotel complexes are often built at the expense of nature. What is advertised as sustainable development often means the slow disappearance of the mangroves. <div>We tell the stories of two initiatives that are doing just that: Keila Vazquez and the women's group Las Chelemeras have been restoring the region's mangrove areas every day for over ten years, often poorly paid, sometimes on a voluntary basis, and always on a project basis. What began as an attempt to achieve financial security as a woman in her community became a deep connection to nature for Keila.

<div>Meanwhile, Adalberto Caamal, a former fisherman, is developing a sustainable tourism project in amongst the mangrove forest. An “isla” (island) of stilt houses for day trips, built with consideration for every animal and every tree. Many other fishermen in the region build “islas” quickly and without regard for the environment. But Adalberto has chosen a different path, one that demands more respect and therefore also takes more time. His father was involved in the first mangrove restoration projects in the region. It was from him that Adalberto learned to think sustainably.

<div>Stella was born and raised in Mexico. Today she lives in Europe, but her connection to the Yucatán coast remains strong. In recent years, she has conducted intensive research on site, interviewed scientists, and built relationships.

<div>As director, Clara brings an analytical perspective on the connections between ecological destruction and global inequality.

<div>We are both united by a deep love of nature and the conviction that stories can make a difference. If they are told honestly, accessibly, and with artistic integrity.

<div>Our goal is not to create a traditional informational piece, but rather an atmospheric short documentary (approx. 30 minutes) that touches viewers, inspires reflection, and gives hope. The mangroves themselves are at the center of the film: as silent witnesses to change and as narrators of a story that is bigger than any one of us.
