Mandy’s Fight Against MND

MANDY’S STORY

Mandy’s life has been nothing but normal, medical problems have been part of her day to day living since her teens. She has been diagnosed with multiple auto immune diseases that need regular visits to specialists and the taking of some very strong medications.
In 2013 she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid nodules in her right   lung which required an operation to remove the lower lobe. During her recovery she noticed her right breast was sore and went to the local GP and found a lump. After a biopsy she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Mandy was in for the fight of her life and had to have a double mastectomy and 18 rounds of chemotherapy. With all this going on she always kept a positive attitude and against all odds made it through to the 5 year survivor stage. She  went back to work at the St Marys Community Health Centre where she has worked for the past 15  years.

Mandy has also been active in the local community in different       activities and events, one standout along with her husband Chris   and her sons Bradley and Samuel was running the local cricket club for 5 years and during that period Mandy raised money for the McGrath Foundation and they had club success winning the grand final in 2018.

Finally after all the problems, things seem to be some what normalMandy was back at work, enjoying life and spending time with family and friends and making plans for their future.

But cruel fate has struck our amazing friend again. Approximately July 2019 Mandy developed a problem with her speech. During the last 12  months it has progressively gotten worse and after several trips to Specialists and numerous tests on Tuesday 8th September at the young age of 48 she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

This news has no doubt rocked Mandy and her family and friends which has left us all heartbroken, sad, angry and emotionally drained. Because if you know Mandy she has always put her family and  friends needs in front of her own and has never asked for help but this time Mandy and her family can’t do it alone, so now it is our turn to help her.  After many discussions on what’s down the track for Mandy it is her needs at home that is most important, modifications to the family home in preparing for later on is what is needed to make things liveable for her to stay at home. If you can help in anyway please donate as any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Let’s help support Mandy and her family at this difficult time and   show her how much she is really loved and supported.
