Global Health Trip to Guatemala
Donation protected
As many of you know, I am interested in pursing a career in international medicine in the future. I am now in my final year of residency and will be going on a global health trip to Sarstun, Guatemala as a representative of my program. I have been a part of the global health track since starting residency and completed my certification in INMED (International Medicine and Public Health) in April of this year. Before starting residency I was able to participate in an international trip to Nairobi, Kenya. I helped provide medical care to ~ 2,000 Kenyan's alongside other medical students, nurses and physicians, which tremendously helped the lives of so many and created an even stronger foundation in my medical knowledge prior to residency. It was with the help of many of you that I was able to have that experience, for which I am eternally grateful.
I will be leaving for Guatamala in March 2018 working with an organization called Refugee International. My hope is that given my limited resident salary I will be able to raise the funds to participate as one of the leaders of this trip.
Refuge International is entering their 14th year helping the people in some of the most remote areas of Guatemala. The mission trip teams are comprised of a diverse mix of physicians, nurses, students, educators, technicians and even those with no medical background that provide equally important administrative and assistant duties in the clinics.
Here are some of the common services we will be providing:
-Vital surgeries
-Health care consultations
-Vision exams
-OB/GYN care
-Child wellness exams
-Distribution of over-the-counter and prescription medications
-Training for local providers
-Equipment servicing
-Water well digging and construction
-Delivery of much needed supplies (medical, technical and educational)
Thank you again for visiting my page and supporting my endeavors!
Best,
Amanda
