The Monster & Sea 24 hour Paddle Story...

Three years ago, during spring of 2015, a team of 6 paddlers out of Seattle, WA paddled 24 hours to raise money for families in the fight with cancer. They blew past their fundraising goals and the event exceeded all expectations in donations and support. At midnight they had over 30 people on the water with them! They were able to stuff 5 envelopes each with $1000 and give them to 5 families battling cancer head on.
The event was the first of its kind and was inspired by an individual, our dear friend, TROY NEBEKER, who himself was in the fight when his wife was diagnosed. From that day forward, he decided we all need to live life to the fullest, "go" just because we can and give back whenever we can. That was the birth of the brand Monster & Sea - the Monster being cancer and the Sea being where he found inspiration and strength.

The 24 goals are modest and simple.
1.Have fun.
2. Inspire our community
3. Raise some grassroots funds to help families dealing with the chaos that cancer causes.

2016  we grew to 7 Teams of 6 paddlers across US and Canada.
Each location had three rotating two-person paddle crews throughout the day, night, and into the next morning. 24hrs. The event dubbed "The 24"
The TEAMS paddled in solidarity to help some warriors, fighting cancer, realize they are not alone in their battle.
Collectivley raising$50,000 and delivering 50 envelopes to families in the thick of cancer.

2017 was a total a game changer. 22 Teams across the US, Canada, and our friends of the sea, in the Cayman Islands collectivley raised $145,000. 145 envelopes delivered into the hands of familys battling the Monster.

I am honoured to be a part of this amazing 24 hour event and Captain a team again, in my community this year. Paddling is what I love. If I can make a difference and give back, doing and sharing what I love within my communtiy, nothing could be more fulfulling.
Each and every one of us feeling very connected to the cause in some way and each are extremely humbled to be a part of the Monster and Sea 24. An opportunity to "paddle with a purpose" sharing time on the water, doing something we love, to give back what we can, because we can.
The Monster and Sea battle cry is #GoBecauseYouCan. It is real, live and happening everyday.

Cancer is a taker. It wants everything from us - our health, our confidence, our families. And it is relentless. Statistics say 1 in 3 people will arm wrestle with cancer. But what about the other 2 people?
Our job is to stand in the gap. Fill that void with love, compassion and our ability to GO when our friends can’t. This is what the 24 is all about.

24 Teams in the United States and Canada, will take to the water together, on April 14th at 8am. Our group of six paddlers will be paddling for 24 hrs, here in the Nicola Valley, raising money to help local families in their fight.
Where does the money go?
We will give out our donations in $1000 increments to a family in need and how it's used is for the family to decide. This isn’t about research, this isn’t about finding a cure, this doesn’t go to a charity. This is cash, in an envelope, put in the hands of folks who need it. It could help pay the utility bills, or buy some groceries, or maybe take the family away for a weekend to get a break from the chaos.
Thank you everyone for your generous support;
know that your donations will go to a great place and will make a difference in peoples lives. Support comes in many forms, so if you are unable to make a donation, we welcome you to come out and join us for paddle around the lake. We would love to have you join us. If you are unable to jon us on the water, come hang out with us, say hi and help keep the stoke going for 24 hours in an effort to raise some much needed funds!
