MamaTona's Medical Fund

I have decided to open this page to raise funds to cover my grandmother’s medical expenses. As you may or may not know, the economic situation in El Salvador is precarious and medical services are not easily accessible to very low-income individuals. With sacrifice and lots of effort as a single parent, I help support my grandmother Antonia for her basic needs. Mama Toña, who is 87 years old and has no means of income, is in great need of medical assistance. On Wednesday November 8, my Mama Toña as we affectionately call her, fell and suffered a delicate and difficult fracture on her hip. She was rushed to the hospital and was in surgery for over 3 hours. These were the longest 3 hours of waiting, especially for my mother who resides in the United States. I diligently rushed to get an emergency plane ticket to fly my mom to be with Mama Toña. After she was out of surgery it seemed that everything would work out, unfortunately, that has not been the case. There have been post-surgery complications for which she needs more medical intervention. She has been re-hospitalized with bronchitis, dehydration, and possible infection. At this point Mama Toña has even received a blood transfusion in order to get her stabilized. My family and I have exhausted all financial means to pay for her medical attention, surgery, and medication. There is no governmental or medical assistance in El Salvador for individuals in her circumstances. If you find it in your heart to help my grandma and family out, please donate whatever you can.
