Mama Marinese and Baby Chance's Heart to Heart

Donation protected
Greetings.  I am setting up this GFM on behalf of my clients, Marinese Flowers and Chaz Rawls ~ I am their doula.

On Feb. 5, 2019, Marinese Flowers gave birth to her sweet twins, little Chaz and Chance.  The beginning of her pregnancy went very well, then Marinese began to feel unwell.  As a nurse, and already a mother of one, Marinese knew fatigue during pregnancy is normal.    But weeks after an emergency cesarean birth of her babies, Marinese found she continued to feel unwell.   She was prescribed an inhaler, told she had the flu, and given anti~biotics, to no avail.

A few weeks into knowing her babies, Marinese and Papa Chaz, noticed one of the twins chest moved abnormally.  Marinese thought perhaps a rib was malformed, but taking baby Chance to the doctor, it was revealed a hole in his heart.  Surgery for him was scheduled at a children's hospital 1 hour away from their home community and
on April 25, little Chaz underwent successful corrective heart surgery.  By April 27 Marinese just couldn't go on.  While at the hospital with her son in recovery, she went to the emergency room and told them she couldn't breathe.  An attentive doctor, unfamiliar with Marinese and her story but learning about her recent cesarean birth,  x-rayed her chest and discovered blot clots in her lungs.  Marinese has been diagnosed with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy ~ a rare form of heart disease, only 1000-1300 women in the US are diagnosed with this ailment.

Marinese has been in hospital for 2 weeks and there is no date of release as of yet and she is in danger of contracting pneumonia.    A father for the first time, Papa Chaz is devoted to his babes and had to leave work and is home caring for the twins.  Care includes driving the twins several times a week to Marnice at the hospital which is 1 hour away.  Through all of this, Marnice was able to breastfeed the babies until her diagnosis.   Baby Chaz is chunky and joyful and Chance knows how to work his charming eyes to redirect the attention away from his big brother.   Big brother Justin, 5 yrs. old, misses his little brothers deeply.   The family is under the strain of separation in this time of crisis.

The road of healing is going to be long and is somewhat unpredictable for the family.   Thank you for reading this campaign for Marinese, Chaz and the boys ~ together we are an amazing VILLAGE!  Blessings!!!
