Malia recently received the news no family ever wants to hear. She is diagnosed with a benign brain tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. This type of growth develops from the balance and hearing nerve in the ear and grows into the brain cavity where it ultimately compresses several nerves and the brain stem. Pressure from the tumor caused her to have ringing in her ear which eventually led to hearing loss.
After several consultations by Doctors it is decided that surgery is the best option due to the tumor being very large. Going on pure faith and prayer, she has been led to a surgical team in Los Angeles, California that specializes in Acoustic Neuroma. The money raised here will go towards medical bills not covered by insurance, medication, physical therapy and travel expenses going back and forth for follow up visits. Her expected surgery date will be June 2018. She will be in L.A. for a 10 day stay during her pre and post op surgery. There is no way to say what the actual recovery time will be, however, we do know Malia will not retain her hearing in her left ear after surgery.
Without treatment, the growth will continue to impact the brain stem, optic nerve, and facial nerve among others. This can lead to a series of functional issues including vision, facial paralysis, along with several other potential deficits. Please help her ease the financial burden, every dollar helps.
