Maleka's Return to China!

Hello everyone; friends, family, fellow Trojans and those who I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting!
My name is Maleka Mau and I am a first-year graduate student at the University of Southern California pursuing a Master’s in Social Work. My concentration is adult mental health and wellness where I hope to learn more about clinical social work with the aspiration to become a licensed clinical social worker that works with adults who suffer from genetic disease or who are going through the organ transplantation process.
In March of 2018, I will be heading to China! I am partaking in a ten-day global immersion that will take me to Shanghai and Nanjing. I will be exploring the concept of holistic and integrative health from an Eastern perspective and how these indigenous methods are utilized to facilitate a healthy lifestyle among the Chinese and learning about integrative health on wellness and substance abuse treatment in China. In addition, some cohort members and I will be going to Beijing the week before our ten-day immersion to see one of the greatest wonders of the world; The Great Wall of China!
This trip has such special meaning to me as I was born in China and adopted by my wonderful parents when I was six months old and this will be the first time that I am returning to the country that I was born. I’m so grateful to USC for giving me such a special opportunity to return to my roots and to be able to integrate my studies and my passion for helping others.
As you can imagine, traveling to China from the United States is a fairly big cost. The largest expenditure of about $1,500 is going to be our program fee which will include lodging, local transportation, cultural activities, tours and field visits. The flight is around $800 and then we will be traveling from Shanghai to Nanjing by high-speed train for the remainder of the trip.
Going to China and returning to my home country has been a huge dream of mine since I was a little girl and I would greatly appreciate all and any support!!
