Malau Vurës Language School

I am raising money to build a language school for my community, the Vurës community of Vanua Lava island, Vanuatu. Schooling for the people of my community has been in English for many years, and both children and adults have never been given an opportunity to learn how to read and write in our indigenous language. It is important for the future of our community to keep our language alive and maintain knowledge of our culture. Over the years, my father and I have been learning to write in our language, and I want to share this knowledge with my extended family and community. To help teach the people of my community how to read and write in our language, I am planning to build a school in my village. I want to make this school in my father's memory to help promote his work of many years, recording and documenting the language and culture of our people.
