Malabi home in Tanzania

Many of you will remember Pres. Malabi from the Bujumbura branch. Previously, he was a professor in Tanzania where his family became converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Three of their four children were born in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.
In order to better himself economically and return closer to their native DR Congo, he took a job teaching at the University in Bujumbura, Burundi. He was the first branch president in Bujumbura.
Some years later after much political turmoil in Burundi and the DR Congo, he took his family to the Johannesburg temple to receive their endowments and be sealed together as a family. As Providence would have it, there was a mission presidents' training seminar in Johannesburg with a scheduled temple sesssion at the same time as their sealing was scheduled.
Pres. & SisterJameson knew the Malabis from their time in Bujumbura as senior missionaires. They were subsequently called as mission president and wife to Kinshasa, DRC. Pres. McMullin signed their temple recommends as the mission president in Burundi & DRC Lubumbashi mission. Both couples attended the sealing ceremony of the Malabis to each other and to their children. George Bonnet performed the sealing. It was the culmination of a life-long dream and a moment of great happiness for everyone.
Tragedy struck as they returned to Bujumbura from Johannesburg. Pres. Malabi was arrested upon arriving at the Burundi, Bujumbura airport. He was whisked away to interrogation and prison. His home was searched and his family harassed. Eventually, he was handed over to the Congolese authorities and sent off to a variety of locations in the DR Congo.
His family moved to Dar-es-salaam in the search for security. They survived in Tanzania with the kindness of the Jefferson Smith Family.
Pres. Malabi was released as the branch president in Bujumbura as his location in the DR Congo was often unknown and his length of detention was equally unknown.
Brother Malabi was shuttled from prison to prison. He was eventually released six months later. The reasons for his imprisonment have never been clearly articulated by Burundi nor Conglese authorities. His release was equally mysterious.
His family is now settled in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania. After working hard for the past two years and living frugally, they have been able to purchase a small building lot for a home. They have a professional estimate for a modest home. They need financial help to build it.
