Making Herstory to CLPP

Donation protected
Making Herstory has been invited to attend the Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) 2016 Conference at Hampshire College in Amherst, Masssachusetts from April 8-10, 2016. We are fundraising in order for our members and staff to attend the conference. Former and current members will have opportunities to travel outside of Oklahoma, many for the first time, and participate in critical dialogues around issues of social justice. We are asking for donations to cover our members' travel expenses. You can help provide this unique experience and opportunity for our members by making a donation at any level or sharing this fundraising campaign to your community. You can read more about Making Herstory's community work and accomplishments below:

Making Herstory is a community-centered, youth empowerment organization that provides a safe space for its members to explore topics of social justice and their own rich, personal herstories. We pride ourselves on being a grassroots organization, led by women of color with workshops centered around women of color feminism and ethnic studies. We are the only organization within the Oklahoma City metro area designed for high school students to cultivate a critical framework to speak on social justice. Our staff and members use each workshop to ask questions, bounce ideas off one another, and explore topics with open and investigative minds.

In the three years we’ve facilitated this space, our members hosted panels at college level conferences such as OU Mosaic Social Justice Symposium and Take Root: Red State Perspectives on Reproductive Justice at the University of Oklahoma. They were interviewed and featured in the OKC Gazette and partnered in a research study about our space. Members participated in protests and developed their own campaigns for social justice. They explored the neighborhoods and the world around them with a critical, social justice lens and discussed the visible effects of socioeconomic injustices. Our members have come to know themselves at deeper levels through group discussions, activities, and speaking arrangements.

Donations will be collected in our Making Herstory account and used for covering the costs of plane tickets, transportation, food, lodging, and incidental expenses for all members and staff. Any remaining funds will be used for our end-of-the-year banquet and general operational expenses.

We appreciate everyone's continued support of the work we do. We are grateful for each and every donation!
