Making a stand for the environment

I recently visited a place called Lady Elliot Island, off the coast of Hervey Bay. This place had the most incredible coral and wildlife I have ever seen. The small resort is running on 95% renewable energy, and replanted many of the island trees. I remember putting my head under the icy water for the first time, and seeing a rainbow. Thousands of tiny fish, larger damsel fish and angel fish. And the occasional turtle, it’s gentle movements in sync with the tides. I remember how devastated I was to even think about this reef being bleached. This place of incredible beauty that supports so many forms of life being gone. Forever.

I’m 13 years old and passionate about saving our natural ecosystems and animals. I attended both the school strikes for climate change this year, and was amazed by the thousands of people who attended, but I think we need direct action now. I am participating in a triathlon in November — a 10km bike, 300m swim and 2.5km run and I decided to do this for a cause. I’m raising money for EDO QLD, the environmental defenders office that is helping put an end to the destruction of our climate and earth. This action is urgently needed, especially with the effects of global warming.
