Send me to Ghana!! (Orphanage work)

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time!

We're definitely blessed with lots of amazing things here in Canada. Switching up our perspectives a little and knowing that there are real people, leading very real lives, in other parts of this world that are waaayyyy less fortunate than we are has to cause people to want to give back a little...

That is kind of my plan here.

I know I want to make a career in counselling. I know I want to help out people in developing countries. Until I am done with school, volunteering with organizations like IVHQ is what I want to do.

The Ghanaian orphanage, my first of these programs, addresses the numerous problems that many children without proper education, health care, food, love and attention face as a result of their parents not being there for them. Orphans everywhere need care and we (volunteers) will be placed in either rural or urban environments where we will "teach, love and care" (directly quoted from site, lol) for these less fortunate children. We will design and execute effective teaching programs, activities and events to inspire and develop the children's talent and abilities through human interaction and care. This program will also give us an opportunity to explore and understand the Ghanaian people and their culture.

Also, this summer, I worked with Plan Canada and started to sponsor a girl from Ghana. Plan has programs for us to go visit our sponsored community and see their work firsthand. More of an excuse to go volunteer there!!

Unfortunately, finances are tight. The flight is about 1600 (so far) and the program fee is about 600 (really cheap for this kind of thing).

I would love it if you guys could me out. ANYTHING works. ANYTHING helps.

All the good things that happen for these kids owing to this trip will be in large part to all the people who decide to lend me a hand.

I would definitely suggest that everyone do this kind of thing atleast once in their lifetime.

Help me do this now and make a difference in some kids' lives :)
