My name is Nika and my dream is to graduate from the University of Edinburgh.
Two years ago I have received a full academic scholarship, thanks to the HMC Organisation, to do my A levels in the UK in Strathallan School.
Before that, I have never considered studying abroad because I didn't think I was smart enough and I thought studying in English, which is my second language, would be extremely hard and it would make it impossible for me to get good grades.
I am so grateful I accepted that offer because that opportunity changed my life! I was able to get a much better education than I was getting in Croatia thanks to the highly educated staff of the school. I have always loved chemistry but my school in Croatia didn't have enough money for lab equipment and I have never done a chemical experiment before I came to Strathallan School. I have met so many amazing people all around the world and realised how much potential I have to make a change in the world one day.
My hobbies are photography and gymnastics.
I have been doing gymnastics since I was 3 years old and I have been to many regionals and nationals competitions. I have won first place as a part of a team at nationals in 2013 and 9th place individually in 2017. I have around 10 gold medals, 15 silver and 5 bronze medals.
I have also received a few gold medals and plaques for photography as well.
I have won 4ht place in regional chemistry competition in Croatia, bronze award in Chemistry Cambridge Challenge and I was in the top 18% of all participants in British Biology Olympiad in 2020.
In my free time, I love volunteering. I have volunteered in many children's sports camps, at an orphanage and at the Red Cross.
I speak 3 languages: Croatian, English and German and know the basics of Latin and Ancient Greek.
I have received an A* in A level Chemistry, A* in Mathematics, A in Biology and A in Physical Education and have met the conditions of my offer to study BSc Biochemistry at the University of Edinburgh which is one of the world's top universities that was placed 20th in the 2020 QS Worl University Rankings!
Due to my great A level results, I have been offered to start the Year 2 of my course directly, so I am currently a direct entry student in one of the world's top universities.
Unfortunately, as I no longer have the full academic scholarship I don't have enough money to continue my studies. My amazing parents have helped me as much as they could and tried to pay for my Tuition Fees and Rent Costs but it is unfortunately not enough...
I am EXTREMELY grateful for anyone who decides to help me continue getting the best quality education so I can make a change in the world one day! Since my degree is in Biochemistry, I would love to be a part of teams who are developing new vaccines once I graduate.
I need any financial help I could get as soon as possible. Otherwise, I will have to go back to Croatia and all of my hard work over the years will be forgotten and I won't be able to get the education I need to make a difference in the world.
Thank you all so much for helping me achieve my dreams and for being a part of my journey. None of my achievements would be possible without your help!
