Please Help Ed Bauer Pay For Surgery!

If you’re a native to Pensacola, Florida, chances are you know my brother, Ed Bauer. Maybe you know him from competing in triathlons, working out at the gym, or running a 5k on random Tuesdays downtown. You may have been a student in his high school biology class. You may have been stationed at NAS with him in the late ‘80’s.

No matter how you know my brother, you know he is a good-hearted person. He is a son, brother, uncle, veteran, teacher, community leader, mentor, and friend. He is known for his positive outlook and take-action pedagogy. In addition to teaching regular core biology classes at Booker T. Washington High School, he leads the Marine Academy of Science which fosters young adults to analyze data taken from our local waterways. With their findings, they problem-solve ways to improve water quality and promote healthier ecosystems here in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. Also, he is part of a team of other educators and students who advocate for Gulf Coast Lionfish Awareness. He is a handyman as well; anyone who knows Eddie, knows he can fix or build anything. He has helped countless people; he straps on his tool belt on and says, “Let’s make it happen, captain.” A few projects of his include: the BTWHS Wild Cat Garden, backyard make-overs after hurricanes, home renovations, and building docks and seawalls. Eddie is always there to help his neighbors and friends. He learned that from our dad. He is a Renaissance man.

What happened?
On the evening of Sunday, February 23rd, Eddie was on his motorcycle traveling on Barrancas Avenue when a motorist crashed into his left side. Eddie was rushed to Baptist Hospital for emergency surgery. He suffered severe injuries to his left foot and leg. He must stay in the hospital for specialized care to his wounds. Now, three weeks later, finally Eddie has healed enough for his second surgery. Our family, family friends, circle of friends, and I are so grateful that Eddie’s injuries are not worse than they are, but the truth is, Eddie’s recovery is going to be an on-going struggle that requires the utmost faith.

 A BIG thank you!
I want to say thank you to the person who called the paramedics, the medical staff at Baptist Hospital, and all Eddie’s well-wishers. Eddie is so appreciative of all the prayers, visits, kind words, cards, flowers, and goodies! All these acts of kindness have encouraged Eddie during his slow and trying healing process. He has been blessed and deeply touched by your genuine kindness. Again, thank you.

 How can we help?
We are trying to raise $12,000 to off-set the additional financial burden Eddie is facing because the motorist who hit him is insufficiently insured. Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated. Let’s do this for Eddie, my brother and a valued member of our community. Thank you so much.

 Let’s make it happen, captain.
