Help Ms. Deepthi’s Last Wish Come True as Cancer inches her closer to the End!
Ms. Deepthi, a preschool and kindergarten teacher in San Jose for the past 20 years, is the definition of the ideal educator, mentor, friend, wife, daughter and mother. She spent her life guiding and building other children and became the most admired and loved teacher at Montessori Academy. With her calm nature, love for children, Buddhist beliefs, she saw each life as unique, precious and lovable. Many of her students who often look back to recall that one teacher that made the most impact in their lives, always point to Ms. Deepthi – who they recall as firm like a parent, gentle like a mother, and playful like a friend.
Ms. Deepthi has been fighting Cancer for the past 5 years with numerous treatments, yielding many good days and encouraging news from doctors, but things turned for the negative in the last 6 months when news came that the cancer has spread to other organs and she was not able to swallow anything. Being fed via tube, Ms. Deepthi spent time at home while a tube was keeping her body alive. In the last 5 days, the cancer has now spread to every organ and doctors have given up on her treatment. She has been taken off all chemo and with no food or water, is pending her last few days.
Ms. Deepthi has one daughter and has been married to an amazing man – her journey has been tough but her constant belief in life lead her to pass through many hurdles, including caring for aging parents despite their own limited resources, helping people in the community despite her own challenges, and lending a hand despite her own illness.
With the news of her situation, many of her old students rushed to seek the teacher they love and admire so much, each recalling her happy and smiling face, each angry about why good people are taken away from us so soon, and each wanting to help in any way they can.
When asked, Ms. Deepthi has said that her only wish is to see her daughter graduate from high school and get a good education, becoming an engineer like she has always wanted. Being a teacher herself, education is the only and most valuable gift that she has passed on to hundreds of children and the ONLY wish she has for her own child.
With no income for the past year and having lived on a preschool teacher’s salary, the family is in dire need. Her last wish to educate her own child is something we can all help make come true. Her daughter is an excellent student with great potential who needs your help.
