I am actually in a bit of disbelief that I am typing this right now.
Since January 2015, I've been experiencing a large array of symptoms surrounding my right ear and neurological system. I've spent thousands of dollars on specialist visits, MRIs and other imaging on my ear and brain, surgeries and procedures, and medication management. I've unfortunately been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that has no known cause or cure at this time, but I've a great team of doctors who monitor me regularly and incredible family and friends who've been so supportive along the way.
Unfortunately, even with medication, some of my symptoms have not gone away. Namely, I have roughly 60% hearing loss in my right ear, and I have a constant noise in my ear called pulsatile tinnitus (which is very different from just ringing in your ears). While it is possible that at some point I can be cured and my symptoms will dissipate, it is unknown whether the hearing loss or pulsatile tinnitus will resolve. I've found minor ways to work around it (you'll often find me wearing ear buds to drown out the noise), but it's greatly affected my sleep patterns and overall anxiety at times.
The good news: I met an audiologist who thinks she can help. The bad news: my health insurance does not cover the device. The device has the capability of amplifying my hearing back to normal while also masking the pulsatile tinnitus to make it undetectable.
Because of the amount of money I've paid in the last two years in medical expenses, I am not at a point in life where I can afford the cost of this device out of pocket. But so many of you incredibly generous people have reached out to me and have expressed a desire to help me financially and I am absolutely blown away by your kindness.
All donations that are made will be used directly to cover the cost of the device and ongoing medical care for the next three years from the audiologist to make adjustments as needed. Honestly, though, I would love if I could serve you in any way if you are considering donating money whether it's walking your dog, house sitting, baby sitting, whatever it may be. I am willing to work to earn it!
