Trackchair for Duane

Donation protected
This is Duane. He came into my life when I was about 1, and I've called him Dad ever since.  In May of 2000, at 29 years old, Duane and my mother Yvette were on their way to work when they were struck by a semi truck, leaving Duane paralyzed from the waist down. My mother has since become his full-time caretaker. The road to recovery, as you can imagine, has been a tough one enduring lots of tears, endless hospital visits, a limb amputation, losing the family home, and ultimately having to accept this new reality.

Duane has always been an avid outdoorsman. Some of his hobbies include fishing, camping, and boating. Since the accident, Duane has had to adapt to both daily and recreational activities. His mobility has become limited. Unfortunately, standard wheelchairs do not allow easy access to terrain like snow, sand, gravel, mud, rocks, or hills/slopes. In addition, health insurance does not cover all-terrain wheelchairs and considers them to be a luxury, not a necessity. Due to this, and his health, he isn't able to do some of the things that he once loved.

Duane, now 48, husband, father of 2, and grandfather to 3, has a hunger for life and an eagerness for adventure. All of this can be possible with the Action Trackchair. You can view the Action Trackchair on YouTube in the link below to see this life-changing chair's capabilities and how it will help Duane. We also aired a segment of our story with the local Channel 4 News.

We ask for your help in donations to give this man his life back. If everyone can come together and contribute generous donations we could make this a reality in no time! Please consider helping to improve my father's quality of life.

In the case we do not reach our goal, or are unable to come up with adequate funds for the trackchair, the funds will go toward my father's living expenses and necessities.

April 2019 Update: Although we did not raise enough funds or receive a grant from Action Mobility Foundation to obtain an Action Trackchair, we did, however, receive a grant for a bathroom remodel for a wheel in shower for Duane. It is currently underway, and will be ready next week!

We would like to put the funds we raised to good use, so my father has decided he would like to put the money towards an accessible vehicle that will help him get around on his own while my mother is away at work. We are now researching grants to help fund the vehicle adaptions.

Thank you all for your efforts. My sister and I wanted to do something special for our father, and although we did not obtain a trackchair, we were still able to make an impact on his life.
