Brandon's Cancer Fund

Brandon needs our Help!

My best friend and “adopted brother”, Brandon Orr was diagnosed with rare Pancreatic Cancer in April of 2017. Chemotherapy treatment started soon after the diagnosis. He went in for weekly infusions, knowing that he had a tough road ahead of him. The side effects of chemotherapy are brutal for most people, but Brandon kept his head held high. Each time he had a few bad days, but kept on smiling through it all. He managed to stay busy with his farm and continue doing some of the outdoor activities he loves, although it was with a lot more breaks than usual.

Finally, after weeks of chemotherapy, his doctor said that the tumor had gone cold and they were ready to operate to remove the remaining tumor tissue. Although, this was exciting news it was also a very scary next step in treatment. This particular surgery only has a 5% survival rate.

On August 14, 2017, Brandon was admitted to The Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah for surgery. We were all terrified and everyone prayed a lot that day. Still, Brandon was in good spirits and was reassuring us that everything would be ok!
After 6 hours we were informed that our prayers were answered and he made it through surgery! They removed 80% of his pancreas, his spleen and bypassed some arteries.
Recovery wouldn't be easy, but Brandon pressed on like a champion knowing that the end of this ordeal was in sight. While recovering in the hospital for five days he started making plans to move to Arizona for the winter, do some traveling and put this all behind him.

Recovery was going well and Brandon was gaining back some strength. Everything was looking good! Then he received a phone call from the surgeon. They were not able to remove all of the tumor. While in surgery they discovered a small amount of cancerous tissue that was too close to a vital artery that they could not resect it. They also informed him that they will not be able to do more surgery for this remaining cancerous tissue. He was devastated as was everyone that loves him. This was just another low blow from that monster we call cancer.

Brandon canceled his plans to move to a warmer climate for the winter, or travel, so he can stay close to his doctors here in SE Idaho. He begins nine more weeks of chemotherapy on September 13, 2017, followed by radiation treatment. Brandon has been an inspiration of strength and courage through all of this and continues to hold his head high with a smile, but Brandon's medical costs have been adding up over these past months and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight yet. Also, now there is the added cost of staying in SE Idaho for the winter and he is in need of heating fuel to get him through the brutal winters we get here.

So, I am asking you to please donate to help with Brandon's medical costs and other costs of living, to ease the stress and burden of going through the hell that cancer puts someone through. He needs funds by October. If we all help monetarily just a little and pray a lot, I believe that together we can propel him to a full recovery!
