<div>Following an 8 month drought the Grantham Canal in Hickling has seen it <strong>lowest levels of water </strong>that anyone locally can remember this year. The water attracts many visitors each year to enjoy its peaceful walks and natural beauty. It also provide a habitat for many fish, birds and other wildlife.

<div>As this section of canal is no longer part of the main navigable water networks in the UK, it is classified as a remainder waterway which means <strong>it is up to us to help maintain it</strong>. A group of volunteers from Hickling and Kinoulton have joined forces to help ensure that the low levels of water seen this year are not  repeated in the future.

<div>1. Increase the water coming into this section of canal and 
</div>
<div>2. Retain water during drier seasons.

<div>These aims will be achieved by leak identification and repair, managed reed clearance and maintaining the main source of water for this section of canal, the Smite feeder.
