Maidan Market - A Hub for Newcomers from Ukraine

Hello my name is Olenka Reshitnyk-Bastian. I am the Humanitarian and Fundraising lead for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Ottawa branch.

 

On February 24, 2022, the lives of 44 million Ukrainians were forever changed. On this day, Russia illegally attacked the sovereign, free and democratic country of Ukraine and its people.

 

Since then, the UCC Ottawa branch - a non-for-profit group - has been hard at work to help support the newcomers seeking refuge in Ukraine through various supports, information sharing and initiatives. One of these initiatives is the Maidan Market.

 

The Maidan Market is a volunteer-led initiative run by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Ottawa branch. It is a community hub to connect newcomers with support services in the National Capital Region and a place to gather, share stories and connect.

 

In partnership with RioCan, the Maidan Market is located at the Westgate Shopping Centre (1309 Carling Avenue, Unit #3) and is officially opening on Monday, May 2, 2022. The location will currently offer the following support services to newcomers and host families:

available to newcomers.

 

The Maidan Market will be pleased to meet with newcomers on the following dates and times:

We are looking for monetary support to help keep this initiative functioning and permanent for at least 1 year. Funds raised through GoFundMe will help with the start-up costs of the Maidan Market and will continue to ensure thousands of Ukrainians fleeing war are supported in the best way possible.

 

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress Ottawa Branch (Market Market) is a not-for-profit organization and cannot provide charitable tax receipts.
