We are a group of individuals who have come to know and love our friend Mahmod and his family. They are now trapped in Kabul, without assets and desperately seeking evacuation. While efforts are underway to help this family escape safely, they are in great financial need. Once they are safely evacuated, the LAST thing we want this family to worry about is how to a roof over their heads and food on the table. Additionally, we are working to acquire legal representation for his family in both Canada and the U.S., depending on which route makes the most sense. Any left over funds will be used to cover those expenses, but the priority is life and well-being. If there is nothing left over, those expenses will be covered personally.


 


Background:


Mahmod is a former Fulbright scholar and close friend who is trapped in Afghanistan. Around 10 months ago he took a job with the Afghan government in hopes that he could help to make something out of his country.


Now, Kabul has fallen to the Taliban and he and his family (wife, sister and 2 daughters ages 1 and 2.5) are a target due to his family name (they are ardent anti-Taliban and known to the Taliban), his work in the Afghan Gov't, his wife's advocacy for women's rights in healthcare (she is a doctor) and his sister's advocacy for women's education (she co-founded a university in Afghanistan). Our network is working around the clock to find him safe passage out of Kabul as well as a path to immigration (US or Canada are frontrunners). His immediate need is evacuation from Kabul. We believe he and his family are persons of national interest to the United States and international community. We must protect him and his family. This GoFundMe will have an immediate and critical impact on the lives of 5 humans in great need.
