Mahi's Going Home Care Fund

Donation protected
Mahilani Pearl Gutina has reached the sunset of her life.  After a valiant fight against 4th stage small cell cervical cancer, the wonderful doctors can do no more.   Mahi wants to go home (Cheney) to her four pups and her belongings to say goodbye and live the rest of her days in peace.  This will require a village to make sure she has the home health care she needs and deserves.

Although she is going home with Hospice, as anyone who has experienced this transition knows, the needs are many.  Hospice can help with the equipment (bed), 24 hour nurse by phone, and other helpful services, but they cannot be there 24 hours a day, which is what Mahi now requires.  Your donation will allow us to hire a home health care aid at the beginning of this transition and then a skilled nurse when needed.

Her treatment is now palliative to keep her comfortable as her body transitions into the final stages of life.  Her cancer is an aggressive rare cancer so we are unsure how much time she may have but if you know Mahi, you know she is a stubborn fighter that is determined to live.  She needs time to organize, let go and say goodbye.  Please help us provide the best care available!

Mahi is a giving and loving person.  She has been a photocopy operator for over 35 years at EWU.  She has helped thousands of students and faculty, not just with their photocopy needs.  She has also provided behind the scenes support for students.  She has helped guide them in their college experience, has fed them with her constant supply of goodies when they were hungry, and has been spiritually uplifting to many troubled souls.  Should she pass way too soon, any unused funds will go to an EWU Library account to continue her tradition of feeding students in need, named in her honor.

If you know Mahi, you know she is a wonderfully quirky person who is a professional clown on the side.   This has been her great joy, bringing happiness to others.  She embodies that spirit.  In fact, she  volunteered at the very hospital where she now resides.  Over the last four months she has brought great joy to the doctors and nurses who have so competently cared for her.  Her timing and humor is so unexpected during such a very sad time.  That is who Mahi is . . . a child at heart who loves Jesus and people.

Please help us shower her with the love and support she now needs.  I encourage you to drop a note to Mahi through this site.  We will make sure she hears your message loud and clear.

Let's get her home and into the hands of capable people to make her remaining days a gift.

Note:  I read this to Mahi for her approval as she is a very private person and asked her if I should say anything else.  Her response.  Thank you!  So thank you, from Mahilani Pearl Gutina.
