Dear Friends,
I am reaching out to the community to help raise funds for a Palestinian refugee family’s legal and living fees.
The Mohameed family: Rania, Mohammed, Jana (16), Anas (13), and Nawa (15) are a Palestinian refugee family that fled from Israel to Canada in 2015. The family is at risk of facing deportation after their refugee application was rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) of Canada. They have been advised to begin filing a Humanitarian and Compassionate (H & C) claim as soon as possible. Their legal aid application was not approved and they are not able to secure the finances required to cover the legal fees for this claim. We are requesting financial support to help with their livelihood and legal fees which are estimated to cost approximately $12,000.
The family fled from Israel to Canada in 2015. Rania and the children escaped violence from a previous marriage where they were subjected to abuse, trauma, and ongoing threats. In addtion the political climate in Israel impacts the livelihood and stability of Palestinians as a minority living under occupation. It is the stability built in the past year and a half in Oshawa that gives the family hope for a safe future.
Rania and her family claimed refugee status upon their arrival in 2015. During this time they have been relocated from three different shelters and most recently settled in Oshawa, Ontario. The family has become integrated into the community with the children attending school, volunteering, and joining extra-curricular programs.
For some time Rania and Mohammed helped in running a Palestinian restaurant near the university campus in Oshawa, however they have recently lost their positions due to the restaurant being sold. They currently have no source of income, and have not received approval for a work permit. Rania and Mohammed are trying to establish a safe future for the children and provide them with the space and resources to recover from the violence and aggression they experienced.
The Mohameed family fears danger to their lives and added psychological trauma to the children if they are deported back to Israel. We are hoping to stop the risk of deportation and provide them with the support they need to ensure their stay in Canada. Your donations will ensure that they get effective and eventually successful legal representation and that they can live with dignity until they are guaranteed a life in Canada.
