7 Afghan Hounds were held captive by a hoarder in Korea. These beautiful dogs--ages 2 to 10 years old-- were desperate for love and affection, food and clean quarters. Used as puppy mill breeding dogs,
they were kept in filth in a basement deprived of the right to fresh air, to take a walk, and kept in cages TOO SMALL for them to even stand up in! When rescued, they were emaciated, covered with sores and infections, needing spaying, neutering, dentals and most of all a safe place to land.
Afghan Hound Rescue Southern California stepped in and up. The tireless Sandy Blount bought crates for the seven hounds and paid to fly them all to sunny California. Since their arrival three weeks ago, The Magnificent Seven have learned to romp on grass, lay out on the good earth, listen to the birds before their healthy meals. Without hesitation, these dogs have demonstrated their resilliency, their happy hearts, their sweet natures.
Unfortunately, tests and multiple visits to the vet have added up: AHRSC needs doxicycline for 3 dogs who are beginning the heartworm treatment; two spays and a tumor removal are scheduled in the near future. The pups who have begun heartworm treatment will not be available for adoption for many months. A few have Giardia. The boys are skeletal and need special diets. And one of the five girls--a frail senior--will likley never be adopted.
The funds from our recent AHRSC Spring auction were used to pay for crates, air transport (cargo and courier), boarding and vet bills. The coffers have run dry!
We want to ensure that these sensitive animals our beloved Affies, get a fresh start so they can live the happy lives they EACH deserve. Even the smallest donations add up. Please help us give back to these pups what they deserved from day one: love and happiness. Thank you!
