Magic Bus Choose To Matter FC

Every year at our Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy (JFSLA), we ask our campers to start a leadership project in their communities.  So in solidarity, the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy Staff decided to launch their own leadership project!  We, as a staff, have launched this campaign to garner support and funds to start a soccer team in Mumbai, India for girls ages 13-18.  The Magic Bus Choose to Matter FC players will be given the opportunity to attend the summer JFSLA in Menlo, California.  The funding will provide a coach, manager, uniforms, field rental, equipment, proper nutrition, and opportunities for the team to compete in regional tournaments.  The wonderful non-profit in India, Magic Bus, will oversee the team and the logistics from Mumbai, India.

The Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy has partnered with Magic Bus India since 2011.  Magic Bus is an organization that works with youth living in poverty to ensure they complete secondary school and develop the skills required to transition into the work force.  Youth soccer players from the Magic Bus India program have attended the JFSLA for the past 7 years. The program has provided a platform for mutual cultural respect to form between the JFSLA campers and Magic Bus participants.

The leadership projects the Magic Bus JFSLA campers initiated have been extremely impactful in the slum communities in India.  Projects have ranged from planting trees in a Bangalore slum to educating community members on the effects of alcoholism to speaking out against childhood marriage.
