Magical Books for Muggle Teachers

MuggleNet.com, the #1 Wizarding World Resource Since 1999, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. While we have readers who have been with us since the early days of Harry Potter fandom, we also gain new ones every day, including younger readers who are just discovering the magic of the series. We are so excited that Harry Potter continues to enchant readers of all ages and is charming the next generation. Many of our readers and volunteers developed a love of literature because of Harry Potter, and we hope to keep seeing kids find their own passion for books, sense of wonder, and source of comfort and joy through Potter. That's why, in honor of our 20th anniversary, we want to help teachers bring Potter into their classrooms and pass on the magic.

According to a federal Department of Education survey, 94% of American public school teachers paid for supplies out of pocket without reimbursement in the 2014-15 school year. Teachers spent $479 of their own money on average while earning an average of less than $60,000 annually. The survey had tens of thousands of respondents from cities, suburbs, and rural areas across the country, reflecting a nationwide trend of teachers taking personal responsibility for classroom essentials that are not provided by their schools. Fundraising and crowdsourcing efforts have aided some teachers in purchasing items on their wish lists, and we want to contribute in our own special way.

We've been hearing from teachers who would love to discuss Harry Potter with their students but don't have enough books for the whole class and don't have the funds to buy them. They recognize the value of the series, the excitement it can bring to children, and the conversations it has the potential to start. With your help, we can purchase enough copies of Harry Potter or another fantasy book you want to teach for entire classes to read and learn together.

Harry Potter transformed children's literature. The New York Times created a separate children's best-seller list because the Harry Potter books took up too many spots on the main list. We know from experience that the series is an excellent jumping-off point for diving deep into engaged reading. As September 1 approaches and Hogwarts students pack their trunks to catch the Hogwarts Express, we can help send Muggle students on their own magical adventures with their dedicated teachers.

Teachers - send us your information (name, school, grade you teach, class size, and book you want to teach) to have a chance to win a set of books for your class! Teachers will be randomly selected. The more money we raise, the more classes we can enchant with books!
