Dear Friends,
My name is Maggy LeBlanc and I am from Lafayette, Louisiana. It is with great joy that I get to share that I have been accepted into postulancy with the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará, also known as the Servidoras! However, I am only able to enter once my $9,000 of student loans are paid off.
How it all started:
Throughout my years at St. Thomas More Catholic High School, I truly encountered the Lord in a profound way that changed my life forever. During my four years there, many faculty members and friends invested their time into my faith life and called me higher each day. I soon came to know Jesus not as a faraway figure but rather as a dear friend who I could seek out in all circumstances. During my senior year theology class, I remember learning about the vocation of religious life and desired to learn even more about it outside of class. Each time I would return to prayer in front of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, the vocation of religious life could be heard in my heart.
Upon graduating from St. Thomas More, I attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I became very involved with Our Lady of Wisdom, the Catholic Church and student center on campus. I began going to daily mass with friends, participating in bible studies, leading retreats, and striving to help lead others to Christ. I also went through sorority recruitment and was initiated into Tri Delta, where there I served as an officer. I also participated in many philanthropy events, chapter bible studies, and fruitful relationships centered on Christ. Throughout my first semester of college, the vocation of religious life never left my heart. It was not until the end of that semester that I finally began to address the longing of my heart. I began to reach out to mentors to help discern the call the Lord placed on my heart. I also attended retreats for various religious orders and during those visits, the Lord revealed that this was the vocation He was inviting me to.
During the summer of 2017, I visited the Servidoras for two weeks and there I participated in faith formation and helped serve at their annual youth festival. During those two weeks, living amongst the sisters, the Lord touched my heart in a profound way. It was during that time the Lord revealed to me that this is where He is inviting me to follow Him. What initially attracted me to the Servidoras was their joy as spouses of Christ. The sisters were filled with so much joy following Christ in their everyday lives, that nothing else mattered besides their love for Christ and service to Him. After months of praying and discerning what the Lord revealed to me, I decided to apply.
I was overcome with joy to receive the news that I was accepted into postulancy with the Servidoras on the feast of Christ the King. I decided to leave the university after the fall of 2017 to enter in the spring of 2018. After speaking with the vocations director, I realized that the only thing preventing me from entering this spring was my financial debt of $9,000 from my college student loans.
Since my loans are the only thing keeping me from entering, I have decided to begin fundraising. I was very blessed to have been able to apply for the Mater Ecclesiae Fund for Vocations, which is a non-profit debt relief fund that assists men and women entering religious life. Due to the number of applicants this year, I will not find out if I have been accepted for the grant relief or how much financial support I could receive until March 15th.
