Maggi (Dena) Louw's AML Battle

Donation protected
My amazing mom, Maggi Louw, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in October, 2019. What we thought was a slight iron deficiency turned out to be an extremely aggressive cancer that needed high dose chemo immediately. My mom lives in South Africa.

It has been an emotional rollercoaster with medical bills piling up on a daily basis. The road ahead is very long and very scary.

My mom’s best shot at beating AML is a stem cell transplant. Unfortunately relapse rates are high for chemo only patients. Her insurance/medical aid will not cover this procedure due to her age (the cut off is 60 and she’s 63).

My mom has been a teacher for the past 30 years and her students mean the world to her. During her first round of chemo she started crying uncontrollably one day and I thought it was just the gravity of the situation sinking in. I asked her why she was crying and she told me that she was worried about her students and that she feels so terrible for leaving them to fend for themselves.

Please donate what you can and if you know of anyone who would be interested to help, please pass the link along. We appreciate it so, so much!
