Maddie Travis Heart Warrior!!!!

Donation protected
During labor my daughter, Kristyn Appel, pushed for over two hours. But Maddie Lyn had other plans. Her heart rate was way too high, and Kristyn was rushed to have an emergency C-Section. While pushing, Kristyn''s membranes broke and she spiked a fever, which caused Maddie to be born with a fever. At 10:44 AM Madyson Lyn was born weighing 8lbs and 5oz. Everything seemed fine and the daddy, Coty Travis, got to hold her. But all of a sudden things were taken for the worst. Maddie turned white and struggled to breathe. Maddie was not getting enough blood to her heart and her oxygen levels were not looking good. There were no answers to why this was happening. So, a team from Vanderbilt Hospital rushed to Lincoln Medical Hospital to transport Maddie to Vanderbilt to be in ICU. When she got there they ran tests and checked her out. Maddie was diagnosed with Transportation of the Great Arteries. This is a birth defect of the heart in which the two main arteries carrying blood out of the heart – the main pulmonary artery and the aorta – are switched in position, or “transposed.” Because a baby with this defect may need surgery or other procedures soon after birth, d-TGA is considered a . Congenital means present at birth. So as soon as Maddie got to Vanderbilt she had her first surgery. In babies with d-TGA, oxygen-poor blood from the body enters the right side of the heart. But, instead of going to the lungs, the blood is pumped directly back out to the rest of the body through the aorta. Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs entering the heart is pumped straight back to the lungs through the main pulmonary artery. During her first surgery Doctors put a balloon in there and pulled it through the hole  to make the whole wider to keep the blood flow going properly. Then in 3-4 days after Maddie can heal and rest, she will have open heart surgery. Basically they will be turning her two main arteries around and then two smaller arteries around. This will be such a big surgery for such a little girl. Madyson will have to stay at Vanderbilt for at least a month or maybe even more. She will also have to continue going to Vanderbilt at least once a month. Nobody knows how long she will be there. With Daddy not being able to work, and him staying in Nashville to be with Maddie, finances will be a real struggle for their family. Daddy also has three daughters, Natalie age 10, Lila age 7, and Olivia age 6, that he also has to take care of. They have a lot of bills at home, and with Mommy and Daddy living in Nashville with Maddie will be very hard financially. Insurance does not cover everything. Anything will help this sweet family out! Please continue to keep praying for their Maddie and their family. Pray that she will be able to go home with Mommy and Daddy and be with her three older sisters that adore her. Anything will help this loving family out! Thank you
