Hello! My name is Mady, and I am fundraising to help cover costs for a Psychology and Mental Health volunteer program in Ghana, West Africa. The two-week program will take place in May of 2025. During this time, I will have the opportunities to:
-Work with mental health professionals at local clinics and hospitals.
-Observe various processes, including consultations, medical administration, assessments, diagnoses, counseling, and medicine prescriptions.
-Collaborate with counselors in child development programs focused on child welfare, safeguarding, and counseling support.
-Form a deeper understanding of various mental health conditions within the context of Ghanaian culture and healthcare systems.
-Mentor alongside mental health professionals in designing workshops that promote awareness of mental health and well-being in schools and communities.
I currently study Cultural Anthropology and Psychology at Carleton University and am passionate about my education. On this adventure, I will be joined by my boyfriend, Aaron, who is a Social Work student at Carleton University. This opportunity will allow us to further our comprehension of how mental health is understood and treated within specific cultural contexts, while assisting the community in treating and de-stigmatizing mental health. Working closely in the community will also provide practical, first-hand experience that will be invaluable and applicable in future education and work scenarios.
Support and donations will help pay for flights and volunteer registration fees, as well as necessary vaccines and other travel essentials.
This is a cause that I am deeply passionate about, and I hope that my contributions can help make a difference in culturally-relevant mental health awareness and treatment. Any support or donations are greatly appreciated, thank you!
