WHAT IS "MADNESS INCARNATE"?
The directorial debut of filmmaker Olivia Wong, MADNESS INCARNATE explores the experience of a writer who battles with his own demons as he falls into a monotonous routine of isolation and self-doubt. A journey through the inner workings of his mind unfolds in an experimental narrative that's full of twists and turns. It's a mind bending thriller that involves dark comedy and experimental elements.
"Madness Incarnate" is a statement about overcoming one's inner demons. Our hope is that our audiences will be able to relate to this story and become inspired to overcome whatever is internally holding them back.
THE TEAM
OLIVIA WONG - Director
Olivia Wong is a 25-year-old, Asian-American, queer, cis-gender woman and filmmaker whose goal is to enact positive social change in the world, through the medium of cinema. Born in Hong Kong, she was adopted at 8 months old and grew up in Sacramento, California. Since the age of 14, it’s been her life’s dream to be a filmmaker—specifically writer and director. Her adoption taught her to live life to the fullest because she almost didn’t have her life. The ability to inspire others to do the same and take advantage of every opportunity is the fuel that propels her to work hard towards her dreams. The duality of evoking emotion and provoking alternative ways of thinking is the vision that she has for her work.

THE PLAN
After many, many delays (as a result of the pandemic), "Madness Incarnate" finally came together towards the end of March 2021. The short film was shot safely and successfully. With the help of copious amounts of masks and sanitizer, the cast and crew (and designated therapy animal, "Smokey" the dog) spent two long, 12-hour days making this movie (and making a mess, but that was part of the set design).
But making a movie doesn't end when you're finished filming it (that would be too easy). Once filming is completed, "post-production" begins. This lengthy process involves several stages. First, the best footage is carefully edited together to create the final cut (after MANY rough cuts). Then, the footage is color corrected to match the tone and aesthetic of the narrative. Next, the sound scape of the film is created by the sound designer and composer to tie together the atmosphere of the piece. Lastly, special effects and graphics are added to make everything pop!
Post-production is a lot of work, a lot of time, and of course...it ain't cheap. The goal of this fundraiser is to complete post-production for "Madness Incarnate" to bring this film to the finish line.
