Madison Hope Street

On April 15, 2002, our family was blessed by the birth of my precious niece Madison Hope Street. Although she was born with multiple health conditions, God has given her a grateful heart and a fighting spirit.  We cannot imagine what life would be like without this vibrant, feisty, and loving little girl in our family.

We want to thank those of you who have followed her story and prayed for her for 13 years. We covet your continued support as her doctors have scheduled open-heart surgery, the second part of the Fontan Procedure , on March 20, 2015 at Egleston Children's Hospital at Emory.

As a little background, Madison was diagnosed with a rare set of heart disorders before her birth. She had her first heart procedure at 4 months, and she underwent open-heart surgery at 16 months. This surgery was the first half of the Glenn/Fontan Procedure.

Her diagnosis: unbalanced AV canal (Hypoplastic LV), DORV (Double Outlet Right Ventricle), TGA (Transposition of the Great Arteries), interrupted IVC with Azygos Continuation to right SVC (Single Ventricle, Single Atrium, Common AV Valve) with SVC (Superior Vena Cava) Connected to Pulmonaries as source of Blood Flow. Basically, her 4th chamber never formed, leaving her with 3 odd-shaped heart chambers and a hole between her 1st and 2nd chambers. In addition, many of her arteries and valves do not function normally; they pump in the wrong direction or are in the wrong places. (Thankfully, the wizards at Georgia Tech were able to construct a model of her heart for the surgeons to study in preparation for this surgery.)

In the winter of 2014, Madison was placed on oxygen full time and finished her 6th grade year at home. She was excited to return for the fall of her 7th grade year, but has since had to return home until her health is restored. In addition to low oxygen levels (70s and below), she is suffering from severe headaches on a daily basis, possibly as a side effect of being on oxygen. While not curative, we are praying this Fontan Procedure will enhance her quality of life and the ability of her heart to provide sufficient oxygen for her body.

As you can imagine, costs have accumulated steadily over the course of her lifetime, and she continues to face treatment for her clubbed foot, single kidney and scoliosis. This account was established for those of you who have expressed interest in helping to alleviate their financial burden. We encourage you to pray and give if the Lord prompts you. Please know that we continue to covet your prayers and words of encouragement as Madison continues down the path God has established for her.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
