Madison Strong

In June 2017, My niece Madison went in to have her shoulder X-Rayed due to a suspected torn muscle. It was a blessing in disguise as the doctors discovered a small shadow in her right humerus. She was immediately referred to the UW-Cancer Center in Madison, WI where they confirmed she had cancer. Her specific type of cancer is Ewing’s Sarcoma.
After many tests and scans, they found that this small 3cm by 5cm tumor in her arm was the only cancer in her body, thank God. They also said the tumor was in a very early stage and we were fortunate to find it so soon in development. Madison began treatment right away, which includes weekly chemotherapy and a 6 week round of radiation. She has been going to Madison every week for chemo treatments since July and just finished her radiation.
After updated scans, we were SO happy to find out the tumor is responding very well to treatment and has shrunk significantly already! Although Madison is winning her battle against cancer, the financial battle my brother’s family is fighting has also been a struggle. Thankfully they have insurance that covers much of the treatment, but driving to Madison every day most weeks is very expensive. It’s almost 2 hours one way for them. Add in the expense of eating out of town daily, other medical expenses and deductibles not covered by insurance, and the fact that both my brother and his wife have had to take off of work a significant amount of time to get my niece to treatment, the financial burden is growing for them. Keeping up with bills has become difficult as well.
Madison is our hero. She has always had a smile on her face through this and has helped us all get through this with her by showing us her strength. We are all so proud of her and love her so much! My brother and his wife are not the kind of people to ask for money, but I see how it has been a struggle for them. I have seen how GoFundMe has helped so many people and families and I thought it would be worth a try to help them out this way. If you can find it in your heart to help this amazing family, please do so in any way you can. And as always, your prayers for my warrior of a niece, Madison, and her victory against cancer are always appreciated!
