An expecting mother and father delighted to find out the news of "boots or bows" while attending the 20week check up of their growing baby, were given news that no parents would ever want to hear. Something wasn't right.
At the 20week check up Ashley and Kevin found out they were going to be having a beautiful baby girl, Madelin.
However, at this time Madelin's parents were also told the upsetting news that she had a serious heart defect.
Little Madelin would suffer from Transposition of the Great Arteries. This meant the two main arteries going into Madelin's heart were connected to the wrong chambers and she would have to have surgery to correct the issue after her birth.
Madelin Brooke Lockhart was born July 17, 2017...a beautiful head of hair and healthy 7lbs and 14oz. At two weeks old she has been transported to Washington D. C. and had open heart surgery. Her family leaving work and home in Virginia behind to be by her side every step of the way.
After open heart surgery, there was a change of plans and little Madelin's chest had to be left open due to swelling.
After this, Madelin began having an arrhythmia so they hooked her to a pacemaker to regulate her heart. Right now Madelin's condition is stable but the machines are doing all the work for her.
Many in our community and surrounding areas have been sending up continuous prayers for Madelin's healing and for her family in this journey. However, I hope we can all do more for this beautiful girl and her amazing family.
Ashley and Kevin are very well known in our small Southside Virginia area. As most can imagine, the medical bills for Madelin are quickly growing for them. Their expenses of travel and staying away from home are building up. And the pre-existing bills from life at home continue to arrive while both parents are away from work.
The goal of this campaign is raise money to help cover Madelin's ever growing medical expenses and also to help cover family expenses while both her mother and father take time away from work to be by her side.
Every prayer matters and every penny could make a difference. Thank you all in advance.
