Raise $5000 for Medical Malpractice

UPDATE:

For those of you who have been following my story, you know that my rib removal surgery did not go as planned. The surgeon who removed what was supposed to be my 8th rib removed my 9th. I have contacted a number of lawyers trying to bring my case to court and they all have turned me down except for one. I have also contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons to do a medical investigation into my case to show liability on the surgeons part. The bad news is that they have not been any help at all. I have been in contact with Ed Schollenberg who is the Registrar at the College since the beginning of this year and he has yet to send me a final report, or any type of report for that matter. The last email from him states that the report will be ready by December unfortunately, the window to bring this case to court will close at the two year mark January 9th, 2019. I see what they are doing, not giving me any time to file this case with the courts after they release their report.

The lawyer who has agreed to help me pro bono said that I need to get a medical expert to testify that there was negligence and that he did not meet the standards of care. To get one of these experts it will cost me $5000.

I know everyone has already helped me over and above what I have ever expected. I am so adamant about going forward with this case and seeing justice prevail. There are no words for how angry and frustrated I am with the medical system. Even if you could just share this and create awareness I would be so grateful.

XOXO Maddy

I have been asked to share a little bit more about my story, and I am more than happy to do so ☺️.

A year and a half ago, I went to my family doctors office regarding a lump I had found in my right breast. As breast cancer doesn’t run in my family, I didn’t worry much about it. My doctor order an ultra sound and a biopsy to figure out if this lump was malignant or benign.

Many weeks later (it always seems like a life time before you find out anything) I found out that it was in fact cancerous. Hearing about so many success stories, I decided to remain positive; cancer can be curable and why not for me? After the doctors explained to me that the lump was actually 2 smaller lumps very close together and that there were 3 others that we didn’t even feel. So as a grand total: 5 rumours in one breast. Can you imagine that? I barely could.

I was then introduced to Dr Patricia Bryden. She is an incredible doctor with such lovely bedside manner. She was to perform the complete radical mastectomy on my right breast. The surgery went so well! We came to find out that they needed to remove most of my lymph nodes in my right armpit which meant there needed to be further exploration. Having cancer In the lymph nodes is a sign that it has already started to travel to other parts of the body. Scary part 1.

After a bone scan, they discovered that I had a lesion in my 8th rib on the left side. They weren’t certain if it was cancer, so to find out they decided to remove that rib. I thought, great!!!!! We can get that right out of there and I can be cancer free!!!!

Unfortunately, as I am sure could probably guess, it didn’t work. A mistake was made where the wrong rib was removed. We learned about this about a month after my surgery when they needed to remove the staples the put in my back to keep it closed. This is still heartbreaking for me now. I’m left with so many what if’s. What if they have removed the cancerous rib? Would I now have these other lesions on my spine? Would I be cured? Questions I will never have the answers to. Scary part 2

I went through 6 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation. Both experiences I would never wish upon another person. Still no change. It hasn’t progressed but it isn’t getting smaller. I am still taking treatments intravenously every 3 weeks and was told today that it will be indefinitely. Now I wait as these doctors decide whether I’m still a candidate for breast reconstruction.... always waiting

Why have I created this page? I want to travel the world! I have never been off of North America and there is so much beautiful world to see. I would love to travel around Europe, see how other people live, experience their vibrant culture. With your help maybe I’ll get to experience the things most people do after they retire.

I’m a regular girl with a regular job, I work as an academic advisor for Toronto Film School, I am a Masters student, I volunteer with my local police force doing crisis counselling. I have so many incredible people I am lucky enough to call friends. I am not ready to give up so easily. They may have suggested 2 more years for me, but I plan to live another 40.

Even if you can’t donate, I would love nothing more than for you to share it a million times over. Let’s get this out into the world! Miracles happen everyday, why not for me?

From the bottom of my heart, Love and Thanks,
Maddy xo
