On Thursday, August 9th, 2018, Maddilyn Rose Burgess, our beloved daughter, sister, grand daughter, niece and forever friend was lost to us by a senseless and tragic act of domestic violence. We are thankful that a conscientious driver traveling along the highway in Maine thought to report a suspicious vehicle that was driving erratically. Upon being pulled over by local police, the driver of the car, who was later determined to be Maddilyn's ex-boyfriend, stepped from the vehicle and committed suicide. The deceased body of our precious Maddilyn Rose was discovered in the vehicle's trunk. Investigators determined that Maddilyn was bludgeoned to death at the residence she previously shared with her abuser in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Maddilyn was a beautiful soul, whose soft spoken nature had a positive impact on anyone that knew her. She was a giving, loving and caring young woman who always saw the goodness in others. Her pure and gentle heart was a source of encouragement and a beacon of light for all. Maddilyn had an affinity for nature's beauty, held her friends and family close and dear to her heart and believed in the power of love. (see Maddilyn's obituary here)
We are devastated by Maddilyn's brutal murder and struggle to understand the violence that took her from us so abruptly. In honor of Maddilyn's precious memory, we have created a fund to benefit Daybreak, a domestic violence program of the YWCA of Central Massachusetts. Our goal is to create a resource facility for battered women in the Southern Worcester County area.
