Maddy Dahminates Breast Cancer

On June 11th, just a few days before her 25th birthday, Maddy was diagnosed with Stage IIA triple negative breast cancer (TNBC).


Maddy is deeply connected to the Santa Barbara community through music (jamming everywhere from our front porch to SoHo), yoga (catch her at Yoga Soup), surfing (doc says she can still surf through chemo), and her coffee shop mornings spent writing articles about sustainable agriculture.  Maddy is a community-maker, always bringing her loved ones together for oceanside outings, camping trips, live music, brewery visits, and homemade meals. She has a magnetic personality and a heart of gold. While Maddy lives in Santa Barbara, she has roots in the Bay Area and friends across the world from her fellowship working in the sustainable agriculture research sector in Laos and Sri Lanka for 2 years. Maddy’s community of friends and family will be crucial during this battle.


While Maddy is charging into treatment full speed ahead, the upcoming chemotherapy, radiation, mastectomy, reconstruction, and possibly more chemo will be a gauntlet and a journey like no other. She is currently going through chemotherapy, and will likely be working very little for 4-6 months. Even with insurance, medical emergencies like these come with limited coverage, high deductibles, co-pays, fertility preservation treatments, prescription fees, healthy groceries, therapy, and other unforeseen costs. The funding from your contributions will go directly towards her care.
