Maddie's Breast Cancer Fight

Updates:
February 28, 2020 Maddie will turn 29 years old. Her fight against MBC continues.

She has had ups and downs. Laughter and tears. Hospital stays, releases, and currently is back in the hospital.

Her youngest is now walking and talking. Her oldest understands that his mom might die from this awful disease.

And yet, there is so much love and hope.

As Maddie faces new challenges, I wanted to offer this update. She is back in the hospital, with a new treatment plan. Her fight is still strong, my mom remains by her side, as does her fiance.

Family has visited, Christmas was filled with joy and presents (though in a hospital room). Hope reigns.

Yet, there are new expenses and new struggles. As her birthday approaches I wanted to send this out, asking for support and love. Birthdays are milestones for all of us, and this one is huge. Please share widely, her story is my story, her story is the story of so many women with MBC. But her story is also her story.

We are so grateful for all of you.
xo,
Monica

She is 27 years old, a mom of 4, a sister, a daughter, a cheerleading coach. She is also fighting stage 4 breast cancer. Her name is Maddie and she is my sister.

Just a few weeks ago, she fell and broke her hip. A pain in the butt was all it felt like. Just a few weeks of recovery and she would be back to playing with her 9 month old daughter. But then a call came back from pathology. The bone was flagged and more tests were run. Cancer. That was the discovery.

One week later and more tests were run. The tumor in the hip led to a discovery of breast cancer. A fast growing cancer. One that will require the fight of her life. But I know my sister. She loves so much for life, for her kids, for her fiance. She's ready.

But we are all scared. There are going to be many expenses. Some will be covered, some will not be. There will gas needed for travel. There will be cleaning costs and babysitting costs. She may need to stay nearer to her treatment center. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Her children, my nephews and niece, have had so much loss. My dad passed away from cancer just over two years ago. That Christmas was a blessing, one I was able to share with them. But in just a few months there will be another Christmas. One that might look and feel very different. My oldest nephew will remember these holidays as some of the toughest of his life. These funds will not only help my sister, but also her kids to find the joy and gratitude that they deserve.

We don't have all the information yet on the cancer. But we know my sister. We know my mom. We know family. Together we can pull together and make this shocking diagnosis less painful. Because I know that when this is all over, and Maddie beats this cancer, she will turn this right around and give to someone else. Please consider helping in any way possible. Donations. Reshares. Post it.

Breast cancer affects us all. And now it affects us even more deeply. Let's all help Maddie fight and win.

Thank you,
Monica (on behalf of Colleen (mom), her boys, her baby girl, her fiance, and Pete, a loving father who was so proud of his baby girl)
