Macy's Fight Against Cancer!

Donation protected
Our world changed forever when I was diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia at the young age of 27. I am a wife and mother of a 4 year old girl.

We are eternally grateful for any help during this difficult time. *All donations will go to medical bills, medication, driving expenses during chemo, and living expenses since I'm unable to work.

❤️MACY'S STORY ❤️---------------------------

In July 2020, I found out I was pregnant. My husband, family, and I were over the moon. From early on, I felt like something was off. In July, I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks. During the ultrasound, we knew something was wrong right away. There was no baby, only an empty gestational sac. The doctor thought that my dates were off, but I knew they were not since we were trying to conceive. I started bleeding shortly after the ultrasound. The doctor wanted a follow up ultrasound in a few weeks to see if we could see baby/heartbeat. A week later, I started bleeding very heavily and went to the ER. The ER did another ultrasound and found no baby. Not even a gestational sac now. They saw tiny grape like clusters in my uterus. I was diagnosed with a molar pregnancy. *A molar pregnancy is when a tumor develops in the uterus instead of a embryo. Molar pregnancies are nonviable.* I needed an emergency D & C. I was transported from Paw Paw to Kalamazoo via ambulance and had an emergency D & C that evening. The doctor was confident they got all the tissue out and that the "mole" would not return. Our family was crushed that we lost the baby. We could not try to have another baby for at least a year, which was even more heartbreaking.

After my D & C, my doctor needed to monitor my HCG levels(pregnancy hormone levels) to make sure they went down accordingly. I needed weekly blood draws until my HCG was at 0. My HCG went down for 2 weeks then unexpectedly jumped up from 505 to 12,000. I started bleeding very heavily again. I was advised to go to the ER and they admitted to the hospital right away. I was in severe pain and miserable. West Michigan Cancer Center was called in. My doctor advised me that my molar pregnancy grew and turned cancerous. I needed immediate chemotherapy. This cancer is called Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia. This type of cancer is very rare. My oncologist hasn't seen a case of this in over 5 year before me.

On Monday 8/17, I started my first round of chemotherapy. I have chemo M-F for 1 week, and then I have a week off. 1 week on, 1 week off. Repeat. My oncologist is thinking that I will need at least 6 rounds of chemotherapy. The duration on chemo depends on my HCG numbers dropping.

Chemotherapy has made me very sick. I'm in severe pain, have constant fatigue, consistent nausea, and I'm unable to work. I can't drive. My husband took all of his vacation time at work to be at my side during my first week of chemo. He now has to go back to work because we cannot afford him to be off of work. Ideally, he would take a leave of absence to care for me.

Any donations will help ease the financial burden that cancer has caused. Thank you for your time.
